About Carsten Höller

Carsten Höller (*1961) was born in Brussels and is an object and installation artist. In 2007, Höller was placed 34th in the Kunstkompass rankings. He lives and works in Cologne and Stockholm. Höller prefers to spend the winter months in his holiday home in Biriwa, Ghana, which he shares with Cologne-based video artist Marcel Odenbach.  Carsten Höller’s installations demand the direct engagement of the viewer, going beyond purely visual reception. Höller questions common perception patterns and uses a playful experimental approach to trigger though processes through unfamiliar or irritating physical experiences. His work has been shown in numerous international one-man shows and group exhibitions. He is one of the hundred leading and living artists of the world in 2016.
