'the wind, the rain and the sunset' constitutes the second collaboration between Gregor Hildebrandt and VogelART. The edition consists of a mirror diptych whose surface is covered with few fragments of audio cassette tapes. Gregor Hildbrandt recorded these tapes with the cover version of the song "I’ll Be Your Mirror“ by singer Ava Vegas, originally from the underground rock band Velvet Underground & Nico in the 60s. The title of the edition is taken from a line of lyrics of the song, which evokes with absoluteness the power of love and the complexity of the human soul.
As the song suggests, mirrors are seen as a metaphor for our own identity and the interaction between the self and the world around us. Both their presence and the themes they elicit are a
central theme through Hildebrandt's work, which reaches from his "mirror paintings" to his portraits and still lifes photographed on the reflective surface of these paintings. Reminiscent of
Hildebrandt's early works on paper, in which audio tapes were pasted onto portraits of famous actresses, "the wind, the rain and the sunset" offers us a fragmented reflection of ourselves, asking
us to question our own perceptions and explore our connection to our individual selves. Framed with a hand finished wooden shadow gap frame, the mirrors are 6 mm thick. The two parts are signed

'the wind, the rain and the sunset' ist die zweite Zusammenarbeit zwischen Gregor Hildebrandt und VogelART. Die Edition besteht aus einem Spiegeldiptychon, dessen Oberfläche mit einzelnen Teilen von Tonbandkassetten besetzt ist. Gregor Hildbrandt hat diese Bänder mit der Coverversion des Songs "I’ll Be Your Mirror“ der Sängerin Ava Vegas bespielt, die ursprünglich von der Underground-Rockband Velvet Underground & Nico aus den 60er Jahren stammt. Der Titel der Edition ist einer Textzeile des Liedes entnommen, die mit absoluter Bestimmtheit die Macht der Liebe und die Komplexität der menschlichen Seele beschwört.
Wie der Song andeutet, werden Spiegel als Metapher für unsere eigene Identität und die Interaktion zwischen dem Selbst und der Welt um uns herum gesehen. Sowohl ihre Präsenz als auch die Themen,
die sie hervorrufen, ziehen sich wie ein roter Faden durch Hildebrandts Werk, das von seinen "Spiegelbildern" bis hin zu seinen Porträts und Stillleben reicht, die auf der reflektierenden
Oberfläche dieser Bilder fotografiert wurden. In Anlehnung an Hildebrandts frühe Papierarbeiten, bei denen Tonbänder auf Porträts berühmter Schauspielerinnen geklebt wurden, bietet uns "the wind,
the rain and the sunset" ein fragmentiertes Spiegelbild unserer selbst und fordert uns auf, unsere eigenen Wahrnehmungen zu hinterfragen und unsere Verbindung zu unserem individuellen Selbst zu
erkunden. Die Spiegel, in einer Stärke von 6 mm, sind gerahmt mit einem Hand veredelten Schattenfugenrahmen aus Holz. Die beiden Spiegel sind auf der Rückseite vom Künstler signiert und

Gregor Hildebrandt was born in Bad Homburg in 1974. From 1995 he studied at the Kunsthochschule Mainz with Friedemann Hahn, then from 1999 at the
Universität der Künste Berlin with Dieter Hacker. Since 1998 he lives and works in Berlin.
In his pictures and installations, he processes analog recording mediums. In this way, deformed vinyl, cassette boxes or tapes mounted directly on canvas are turned into minimalist works, to
which a further, invisible dimension is added through the musical prehistory. Hildebrandt has been Professor of Painting and Graphics at the Akademie der Bildenden Künste in Munich since 2015. In
2016 he was awarded the Falkenrot Prize of the Künstlerhaus Bethanien.
Hildebrand's works can be found in international museums and private collections. He has had solo and group exhibitions at Almine Rech Gallery, Galerie Perrotin,

Gregor Hildebrandt wurde 1974 in Bad Homburg geboren. Ab 1995 studierte er an der Kunsthochschule Mainz bei Friedemann Hahn, danach ab 1999 an der Universität der Künste Berlin bei Dieter Hacker. Seit 1998 lebt und arbeitet er in Berlin.
In seinen Bildern und Installationen verarbeitet er analoge Datenträger. So entstehen aus verformtem Vinyl, Kassettenschachteln oder direkt auf Leinwand angebrachten Tonbändern minimalistische Werke, denen durch die musikalische Vorgeschichte eine weitere, unsichtbare Dimension hinzugefügt wird. Hildebrandt ist seit 2015 Professor für Malerei und Grafik an der Akademie der Bildenden Künste in München. 2016 wurde ihm der Falkenrot Preis des Künstlerhaus Bethanien verliehen.
