Jonathan Lasker was born in New Jersey in 1948. He lives and works in New York City. Lasker studied 1975-1977 at the School of Visual Arts, New York and moved to the California Institute of the Arts, Valencia, CA in 1977. Towards the end of the 1970s Lasker developed a formal language whose motifs were characterized by numerous and repeated endless loops of broad, pasty traces of color. His compositions are structured and oscillate between intuition and analysis. In 1981 he had his first solo exhibition, his work was honoured in numerous solo exhibitions, including a major retrospective in 1997/1998 at the Kunsthalle Bielefeld, the ICA Philadelphia, the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam and the Kunstverein St. Gallen; a major solo exhibition at the Kunstsammlung Nordrhein-Westfalen, Düsseldorf. In 1992 he took part in Dokumenta XI in Kassel. Jonathan Lasker was elected a full member (NA) of the National Academy of Design in New York in 2015. Jonathan Lasker wurde 1948 in New Jersey geboren. Er lebt und arbeitet in New York City. Lasker studierte 1975–1977 an der School of Visual Arts, New York und wechselte 1977 an das California Institute of the Arts, Valencia, CA. Gegen Ende der 1970er entwickelt Lasker eine Formensprache, deren Motivik sich durch zahlreiche und wiederholte Endlosschleifen aus breiten, pastosen Farbspuren auszeichnet. Seine Kompositionen sind strukturiert und schwanken zwischen Intuition und Analyse. 1981 hatte er seine erste Einzelausstellung, sein Werk wurde in zahlreichen Einzelausstellungen gewürdigt, darunter eine größere Retrospektive 1997/1998 in der Kunsthalle Bielefeld, im ICA Philadelphia, im Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam und im Kunstverein St. Gallen;  eine große Einzelausstellung in der Kunstsammlung Nordrhein-Westfalen, Düsseldorf. 1992 nahm er an der Dokumenta XI in Kassel teil. Jonathan Lasker wurde 2015 in New York zum Vollmitglied (NA) der National Academy of Design gewählt.
