'Tristan & Isolde' by Max Frintrop

Max Frintrop and VogelART have long been close friends and so it was only a question of the right
moment and the right idea to realize a second and new edition with Max. The motifs "Tristan & Isolde" are sections of a large work by Max Frintrop, which was painted in 2020.
The exciting thing about it - the cutouts work both as individual motifs and together as a diptych. Both motifs are so different and yet they come from one work - based on the story of Tristan
& Isolde, they belong together and are still separate. With "Tristan & Isolde" we followed a new approach to Max's edition "Kalypso" from 2018. The basis of the two motifs is so coherent
in itself that only very subtle, partially hand-colored areas on the sheets (per motif in an edition of 15) perfect them. The 100 x 100 cm prints were hand-torn - which is another reason why they
are so special.
Max Frintrop und VogelART verbindet schon lange eine enge Freundschaft und so war es nur eine Frage des richtigen Moments und der richtigen Idee eine zweite und neue Edition mit Max zu realisieren. Die Motive "Tristan & Isolde" sind Ausschnitte aus einer großen Arbeit von Max Frintrop, die 2020 entstand. Das Spannende daran – die Ausschnitte funktionieren sowohl als Einzel-Motive als auch zusammen als Diptychon. Beide Motive sind so unterschiedlich und doch stammen sie aus einer Arbeit – angelehnt an die Geschichte von Tristan & Isolde gehören sie zusammen und doch sind sie getrennt. Bei "Tristan & Isolde" folgten wir einem neuen Ansatz zu Max´s Edition „Kalypso“ von 2018. Die Basis der beiden Motive ist an sich so stimmig, dass nur noch sehr subtile, partiell handkolorierte Stellen auf den Blättern (pro Motiv in einer Auflage von 15) diese perfekt abrunden. Die 100 x 100 cm großen Drucke wurden handgerissen – auch das macht sie deshalb sehr besonders.
Max Frintrop (*1982) lives and works in Düsseldorf. He completed his studies in free art at the Düsseldorf Art Academy as a master student of Prof. Albert Oehlen in 2009. He is a painter through and through and thus a welcome rarity in the contemporary art scene. His medium is mostly huge canvases. Which not only fascinate one, they touch and do not let go. The pictures understand themselves as an invitation to dive into the intense, deep-spatial color compositions. The three-dimensionality he achieves with powerful brushstrokes is surprising and always fascinating.
Since 2010, Max Frintrop has had numerous important solo and group exhibitions in Germany and abroad. Among others at Berthold Pott Gallery, Cologne; The Hort Family Collection, New York City;

His most recent exhibitions in 2019 included Kunstmuseum Bonn, Museum Wiesbaden, and Museum Gunzenhauser Chemnitz. In 2020 he exhibited at Museum Deichtorhallen, Hamburg, among others, and was
shown at Gerhard Hofland Gallery and "on the inside -Project Space", Amsterdam, Berthold Pott Gallery, Cologne, Paul Ege Art Collection, Freiburg, and at Obergallery, Kent, Connecticut, USA. His
works are in many international collections.
Max Frintrop (*1982) lebt und arbeitet in Düsseldorf. Sein Studium der Freien Kunst an der Düsseldorfer Kunstakademie hat er als Meisterschüler von Prof. Albert Oehlen 2009
abgeschlossen. Er ist ein Maler durch und durch und somit eine willkommene Rarität in der zeitgenössischen Kunstszene. Sein Medium sind meist riesig große Leinwände. Die einen nicht nur
faszinieren, sie ziehen in den Bann und lassen nicht mehr los. Die Bilder verstehen sich als Einladung in die intensiven, tiefenräumlichen Farbkompositionen einzutauchen. Die Dreidimensionalität,
die er mit kräftigen Pinselstrichen erzielt, ist überraschend und immer faszinierend.
Seit 2010 hat Max Frintrop zahlreiche bedeutende Einzel- und Gruppen Ausstellungen im In- und Ausland. U.a. bei Berthold Pott Gallery, Cologne; The Hort Family Collection, New York City;
