About Grace Weaver

Grace Weaver was born 1989 in Vermont, she lives and works in New York. Weaver’s artistic practice aims to contribute a “girly” perspective to the history of large-scale oil painting. Grace Weaver breathes new life into figurative painting. Her works are abuzz with the present, graceful, sexy, contemplative, and witty. Her paintings are of subtle gestures, poses, and gazes. Situational observations of daily life conjoin with sensitive self-reflections, bold drafts merge with a revelling chromaticity. Weaver’s young protagonists, in groups, as couples, or fully absorbed with their own „care of the self“, most often seem to wonder, who they actually are or want to be. For the first time, this monograph gives a survey of her stunning œuvre.

Grace Weaver graduated with an MFA from the Virginia Commonwealth University, Richmond in 2015. Weaver has been awarded with grants and residencies including a VCUARTS Dean’s Graduate Research Grant, Artist-in-Residence at DakshinaChitra, (Chennai, Tamil Nadu) and the Burlington City Arts’ ArtLab residency. Weaver’s work has been the subject to solo shows such as BEST LIFE, James Cohan Gallery, New York; Super Busy, Soy Capitán, Berlin; Pedestrian, Kunstverein Reutlingen, Reutlingen; No hard feelings, Koppe Astner, Glasgow; Skinny Latte, Soy Capitán, Berlin; Killing Me Softly – Works from the Miettinen Collection, Berlin; ALL THE GIRLS, Condo Shanghai, hosted by AIKE Gallery, Shanghai; Kunstpalais Erlangen and Oldenburger Kunstverein. Her work is featured in the collections of FRAC des Pays de la Loire, Carquefou, France and ARoS Museum, Aarhus, Denmark.
