About Julian Schnabel

Julian Schnabel (*1951) lives and works in New York City and on Long Island. After graduating at the University of Houston/Texas he successfully applied for the Independent Study Program at the Whitney Museum/New York. His first solo exhibition was in 1979 - since then the list of exhibitions became impressively long, including the most important museums worldwide. Schnabel is considered as main representative ot neo-expressionism and is one oft he most famous living artists ot the US. His work in one word? Unconventional. No matter if he does paintings with broken dishes, sculptures, paper works, movies or music. His creativity last but not least comes from longstay trips across Europe in the late Seventies, the fasciantion for the architecture of Gaudí and his love of opulence.
