With Michael Sailstorfer, we have been in frequent contact with each other on art topics for quite some time. And it was clear to us: it is only a matter of time before we publish an edition together. In spring 2020 the time had come and we had the first ideas during a studio visit in Berlin. In our thoughts we reflected different approaches and always came back to the work "Clouds", which Sailstorfer installed in 2010 in the Kunstsammlung Nordrhein-Westfalen in Düsseldorf - three hundred clouds made of truck hoses as a temporary installation.

Our edition "HEAVY CLOUDS" was created in autumn 2020 and in contrast to the "Clouds" from 2010, the work in bronze appears significantly more massive and at the same time very lightweight despite its "handy" dimensions. The edition of 25 bronze sculptures can be hanged from the ceiling or simply placed on a sideboard, a pedestal, or the floor. The edition was published exclusively by VogelART.

Mit Michael Sailstorfer stehen wir schon länger im regelmäßigen Austausch in Sachen Kunst. Und es war uns klar: es ist nur eine Frage der Zeit, bis wir gemeinsam eine Edition herausbringen. Im Frühjahr 2020 war die Zeit gekommen und wir hatten bei einem Studio Besuch in Berlin die ersten Ideen. Wir umkreisten gedanklich verschiedene Ansätze und kamen aber immer auf die Arbeit "Clouds“ zurück, die Sailstorfer 2010 in der Kunstsammlung Nordrhein-Westfalen in Düsseldorf installierte - dreihundert Wolken aus Lkw-Schläuchen als temporäre Installation.


Es entstand unsere Edition "HEAVY CLOUDS" im Herbst 2020 und im Gegensatz zu den "Clouds" aus 2010 wirkt die Arbeit in Bronze trotz „handlicher“ Dimensionen deutlich massiver und zugleich federleicht. Die Edition in einer Auflage von 25 Bronze Skulpturen kann von der Decke abgehängt, auf ein Sideboard, einen Sockel oder den Boden gestellt werden. Die Edition wurde exklusiv von VogelART herausgebracht.



Michael Sailstorfer works in various fields of sculpture and installation as well as painting, performance, photography and film. Among other things, he uses everyday objects as material for performative installations. He disassembles things and reassembles them in a new way. Spaces are transformed. Meaningful shifts of context are presented with a wink. Whether car tyres, wrecking balls, popcorn machines or simple trees, he systematically steers familiar objects out of their original functions and frames of reference and into new contexts of meaning. Sailstorfer pushes his practice further beyond physicality by playfully experimenting with immaterial qualities such as smell, sound, energy and light.

Born in 1979 in Vilsbiburg, Germany, Michael Sailstrorfer lives and works in Berlin. After his studies at the Akademie der Bildenden Künste in Munich, he continued his studies at Goldsmiths College in London. He was "artist in residence" at the Villa Aurora in Los Angeles and guest artist at the Office for Contemporary Art Norway. In 2004 he participated in the Sydney Biennale and Manifesta 5 in San Sebastian. Over 200 international exhibitions followed. His works are in private and public collections, including the Centre Georges Pompidou (Paris), the Goetz Collection (Munich) and S.M.A.K. (Ghent). He is represented by Galerie KÖNIG; Carbon 12, Dubai; Avlskarl Gallery, Kopenhagen; among others.

Michael Sailstorfer arbeitet vielseitig in den Bereichen Skulptur und Installation sowie Malerei, Performance, Fotografie und Film. Er verwendet u.a. alltägliche Objekte als Material für performative Installationen. Er zerlegt Dinge und setzt sie neu zusammen. Räume werden umfunktioniert. Sinnstiftende Kontextverschiebungen werden augenzwinkernd präsentiert. Ob Autoreifen, Abrissbirnen, Popcornmaschinen oder einfache Bäume, er lenkt bekannte Objekte systematisch aus ihren ursprünglichen Funktionen und Bezugsrahmen in neue Bedeutungszusammenhänge. Sailstorfer treibt seine Praxis weiter über die Körperlichkeit hinaus, indem er spielerisch mit immateriellen Qualitäten wie Geruch, Klang, Energie und Licht experimentiert.


Geboren 1979 in Vilsbiburg, Deutschland, lebt und arbeitet Michael Sailstorfer in Berlin.
