About Jonanthan Meese

Jonathan Robin Meese (*1970) was born in Tokyo and lives and works in Ahrensburg and Berlin. His work encompasses painting, sculpture, installations, performances, collages, video art and theatre works. He mainly focuses on figures from world history, mythology and heroic sagas. He attended the Academy of Fine Arts in Hamburg, but left this when he came to the attention of a contemporary gallery in Berlin. Meese’s first one-man show was held in the Museum of Contemporary Art in North Miami. His works have been seen in numerous international solo shows and group exhibitions. He is one of the hundred leading and living artists of the world in 2016.

Jonathan Robin Meese (*1970) geboren in Tokyo lebt und arbeitet in Ahrensburg und Berlin. Seine Werke umfassen Malerei, Skulpturen, Installationen, Performances, Collagen, Videokunst und Theaterarbeiten. Dabei thematisiert er überwiegend Persönlichkeiten der Weltgeschichte, Ur-Mythen und Heldensagen. Er besuchte die Hochschule für bildende Künste in Hamburg, verließ diese jedoch, als eine zeitgenössische Galerie in Berlin auf ihn aufmerksam wurde. Meeses erste Einzelausstellung wurde im Museum of Contemporary Art in North Miami gezeigt. Seine Arbeiten wurden in zahlreichen internationalen Einzelausstellungen und Gruppenausstellungen gezeigt. Er gehört zu den hundert führenden lebenden Künstlern der Welt im Jahr 2016.
