About Gert & Uwe Tobias

Twin brothers Gert & Uwe Tobias (*1973) are among Germany's best-known print graphics artists. The duo mainly work on large format, highly coloured woodcuts and co-called typewriter drawings. The artists frequently revisit motifs from their homeland, with folklore and folk art often providing a focus. In 2016  they have are exhibiting in the Pinakothek der Moderne in Munich with a series of large format woodcuts in grey tones, a reinterpretation of historical "grisaille" images.

 

Gert & Uwe Tobias have had numerous international solo exhibitions where their works have been shown. Among them are the shows at the New York Museum of Modern Art, the Kunstmuseum Bonn, Palais des Beaux Arts Brussels, Hammer Museum Los Angeles, Kunsthalle Vienna, Sprengel Museum Hannover, Whitechapel Gallery London, or the Kunstmuseum Ravensburg.

Die Zwillingsbrüder Gert & Uwe Tobias (*1973) gehören zu den bekanntesten deutschen Druckgrafik-Künstlern. Das Duo umfasst schwerpunktmäßig großformatige, sehr farbintensive Holzschnitte und sogenannte Schreibmaschinenzeichnungen. Immer wieder werden Motive aus dem Geburtsland der Künstler aufgegriffen, auch Folklore und Volkskunst stehen im Mittelpunkt vieler Werke. 2016 zeigten sie Ihrer Ausstellung in der Pinakothek der Moderne in München großformatige Holzschnitte ganz in Grautönen, eine Neuinterpretation des alten Bildtypus der "Grisaille".

 

Gert & Uwe Tobias hatten bisher zahlreiche internationale Einzelausstellungen, wo ihre Werke gezeigt wurden. Zu nennen sind beispielsweise die Schauen im New Yorker Museum of Modern Art, im Kunstmuseum Bonn, Palais des Beaux Arts Brüssel, Hammer Museum Los Angeles, Kunsthalle Wien, Sprengel Museum Hannover, Whitechapel Galleyy London oder im Kunstmuseum Ravensburg.
