About Takashi Murakami

Takashi Murakami (* 1962) born in Tokyo, is a painter and sculptor. Murakami created a new art genre, Poku (Pop + Otaku). He aims at the fusion of the traditional Japanese art of Otaku with pop art and believes that this will lead to the renewal of the contemporary art scene in Japan. His work is often compared with that of Andy Warhol or Keith Haring. Despite the comic-like style of his works, which can also assume threatening dimensions, Murakami reflects and question the Japanese and Western culture. His works can be seen in numerous prestigious international collections and museums.
